Wasserturm – The Water Tower of Mannheim

Wasserturm (Water Tower) is one of the famous land marks in the city of Mannheim. They normally held the Christmas here which I visited on its last night. This is where I had my first bratwurst sandwich and "Glühweine" (German Christmas warm red wine). Wasserturm was built from 1886 to 1889 with 60 meters high.

The architect of this water tower is Gustav Halmhuber (1897) and thanks to him because this water water came closer to my heart now. I took this photo while in a tram coming back from Berlin. I once visited a friend last September 2014 and she lived near the Wasserturm, again I walked near by the Wasserturm thinking I would find her place nearby. Happy to have a clear sky that day and I was enjoying seeing people walking around. I need to make my own poem for Wasserturm too. Many Mannheimers made poems out of their inspiration towards Wasserturm. It so nice to chill around the park near famous Wasserturm I suppose. I’ve seen Wasserturm in winter and at the last days of summer; I wish to see it with snow soon.

And, you will normally pass the Wassertum going to Haupbahnhof (train station). This train station is the main station in Mannheim that would connect you going to other European country. But this photo was when we just came back from Berlin. We went here as well when we visited France.

I remember in January 2013 – it was like 5 degrees outside Haupbahnhof while we were waiting for the tram and we just have to go at the entrance instead of waiting outside just to feel warmer. Pangga loves to get some drink and bretzel at one of the bakery here whenever we take the train going to Paris, Alsace, Frankfurt, Berlin etc. and so, that’s the story behind these photos.

The from Mannheim dialect poet Erna return wrote in her poem entitled "Mei liewes Mannem" ("My dear Mannheim")

“De water tower, the plank,
of everything is devastated,

the heaviest Heiser sanke

how muck degree in the earth”
